CYCLING CLASSIC ROLLS THROUGH TOWN

Festivals of Cedarburg, Inc. will host the 3rd Annual Cedarburg Cycling
Classic, on Tuesday July 22, 2008. The Classic started in 1969 in Milwaukee
and has now expanded to a 17 day event at locations throughout Southeastern
Wisconsin and Illinois. Biking champions from all over the world and
the US will be competing. For more information on the race, its history

Historic Cedarburg’s day-into-evening event will be split into
two different courses. The daytime races will be located on Cedarburg’s
north side near Parkview Elementary School. These men’s and women’s
races will start at 9:15 AM and run until 3:30 PM. Women’s Races
begin at 9:30 a.m. The course route will start at Parkview Elementary
and travel south on Harrison to Pine Street, then west to Poplar and
north to Coventry and then east to Harrison.
There will be a Bike Safety Rodeo for kids entering grades 2nd - 5th
grades in the Parkview Elementary School parking lot, conducted by the
Cedarburg Police Department.
A Kids Classic Race for children under 7 will begin at 5:15 p.m. The
race will begin at Turner Street ending at Port Washington State Bank
on Washington Avenue.
The Men’s Pro-Am Race will kick off with introductions at 5:45
PM. At 6:00 p.m., professional riders will compete on a course that
starts on Washington Avenue at Port Washington State Bank, then heads
south to Western Avenue. Riders will continue traveling west on Western
to Madison Avenue then east on Center Street, north on Hanover, east
on Turner Street, then back to Washington Avenue, all in about two hour’s
time!
This fun filled day of racing events will provide lots of entertainment
for spectators. The Cedarburg Lion’s Club will host a Food &
Beer Tent from 4-9 pm at Port Washington State Bank. Attendees will
enjoy strolling along picturesque Washington Avenue, (named to the National
Register of Historic Places in 1986), while visiting charming and unique
shops and restaurants, chatting with friends over a cup of java or just
relaxing on the sidelines.
